BackgroundPost sport careerDual careerIT'S A VISION

What’s behind the Aftermatch project

The AFTERMATCH project’s approach is based on this basic question: “which competences, acquired during sport career, can be successfully transferred in the labour market in order to offer athletes the opportunity to recycle and spend their knowledge in and for the companies? And how?”.

Professional athletes are forced to live two times!

The AFTERMATCH project intends to focus in particular on “post sport careers and employment opportunities for ex-athletes”, by moving forward existing examples with an innovative approach considering sport teachers, trainers & managers as the main driving force.

Educational
Effort

Despite the existence of “Protocols” for some Federations in Europe, there is still a significant need for stronger educational efforts in order to equip the staff of sport associations / federation with competences enabling them to transfer knowledge on “dual career” in the right way: AFTERMATCH project intends to act exactly on that.

It's not simple...
It's a vision

AFTERMATCH project intends to promote a positive behaviour among athletes and ex-athletes, as well as to raise awareness about the need for paving the way for an “exit strategy” after the end of the sport career. Our solution is to improve the educational power of sport teachers, trainers and sportive associations / federation managers by means of innovative training modules (the AFTERMATCH Model). By acting like this, the project offers an opportunity for athletes and ex-athletes to innovate their professional profile by focusing also on acquired “sport related transversal skills”.

Specific objectives
    • To sensitize and to raise awareness about the need for European athletes to think about an “exit strategy” outside the sport’s world, by targeting the action not directly on athletes, but on ex-athletes and sport associations (teachers, managers and trainers) in different EU countries;
    • To identify and to officialise a way (AFTERMATCH model), validated at EU level by educational & training experts as well as by sport federations, to include innovative modules in traditional training paths for trainers and managers of sport associations able to promote dual career and transition to post-sport career by valorising sport-related skills;
    • To test the AFTER MATCH model in different EU countries by means of training pilot paths targeted to: 1) trainers, coaches, managers in the field of sport; 2) teachers in sport schools or academies; 3) labour market / private employers. The aim is to have a model customized on target groups and final beneficiary’s needs;
  • To spread and, if possible, to pave the way for transferring AFTER MATCH Model in countries other than the ones participating the project, by setting up a “transferability plan” (Guidelines) including both measures for raising awareness and methodologies for activating training actions
    • To spread and, if possible, to pave the way for a transferring AFTER MATCH Model in countries other than the partners’ ones, by setting up a “transferability plan” (Guidelines) including both measures for raising awareness and methodologies for activating training actions;
    • To set up local promotional campaigns able to identify a “testimonial” (a high level athlete at country level) and to “use” it as a model for young generations, oriented towards media and new media channels, aimed at favouring a culture of sport including also the need of thinking about an alternative career after sport. At the same time, To sensitize companies & firms by means of creative tools (ex. the theatre performance);
  • To set up local promotional campaigns able to identify a “testimonial” (a high level athlete in each country) and to “use” he or she as a model for young generations, able to break the screens in media and new media channels, in order to favour a culture of sport including also the need of thinking about an alternative career after sport. At the same time, the project aims at sensitizing companies & firms by means of creative tools (ex. the theatre performance)

We can do it"

  • The activation of a cooperation at EU level among training-educational centers and sport federations or associations is expected to raise the awareness of the main stakeholders about the need of “doing more and better and also to increase their knowledge about the most effective existent solutions. In particular, WP6 and WP7 will be the “moment” in which contamination is expected to occur.

  • At the same time, the AFTERMATCH project is expected to give back new solutions to other European Union countries. Thanks to the specific methodology chosen by the partnership (model customization following local experimentation results), the Model is expected to be easily transferable.
